Firm Overview
The Law Office of George “Dave” Giddens, P.C. began in 1997 as a solo practice with an emphasis on bankruptcy. Today, the firm has six lawyers on staff with a wide range of expertise in different practice areas. The firm now serves small business owners, bankers, consumers and individuals in the areas of bankruptcy (creditors and debtors), estate planning, business litigation, taxation, and commercial and real-estate transactions.
Dave Giddens, the owner of the firm, attributes the firm’s growth to his commitment to excellence in all aspects of the client experience. “When clients walk through our door, we take the time to explore their unique situation and come up with the best solution for them,” he says. “That sort of experience is not always the case especially when it comes to bankruptcy law because some firms offer cookie-cutter solutions that are not the best option for their clients.”
Giddens’ interest in bankruptcy began in 1983 when he first began his law career in Roswell, New Mexico. His focus then was on getting it right, providing his client with the best solution for their situation. And that commitment has not changed over the years. It’s been noted by his peers and he is now the “go to” attorney for anything related to bankruptcy, and he is quoted frequently by the Albuquerque Journal on bankruptcy matters.
A large part of Giddens’ practice involves helping farmers and ranchers navigate the bankruptcy process. He is one of a handful of attorneys in New Mexico who focuses on agricultural bankruptcies and he has a passion for it. “I grew up in Western Kansas and many of my neighbors were farmers and I experienced first-hand the nature of their business,” he said.
In 2009, and again, in 2012, he was named a Southwest Super Lawyer for his excellence in bankruptcy law. In addition, Giddens has been selected as an honoree for Best of the Bar for Bankruptcy in 2011 by New Mexico Business Week; he and his firm also received the highest rating by Martindale-Hubbell® (AV Preeminent), a peer review legal rating service, for his and his firm’s professional abilities and ethics.
With associates Patricia Bradley and Dean Cross on board, the firm has expanded its practice to include estate planning, probate and tax matters. Bradley’s practice includes simple and complex wills, special-needs trusts, guardianships, conservatorships, and probate, as well as tax issues relating to estate planning. She also provides counsel on the administration of complex trusts and the allocation of assets in family trusts.
Throughout his 23-year career, Cross has focused on estate planning and taxation. In the past several years, he has concentrated on accumulating additional knowledge in the heavily regulated areas of taxation and estate planning by earning a post-graduate law degree (LL.M) in taxation. He is currently studying for a second LL.M in estate planning from the University of Miami. He joined the Law Office of George “Dave” Giddens, P.C. in December 2011. In his current role, he prepares organization and succession plans, drafts wills, motions and trust agreements and conducts commercial, estate and tax enforcement litigation among other responsibilities.
Based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the firm is committed to its clients and to supporting the local community. Giddens encourages his staff to participate in both professional and community activities.
